100% yes.

I can’t stand people who do this. Even I who restrain from any type of conflict go ahead and tell them not to.

It’s not the part where the kid looks like George Michael? ‘Cause that could be a pretty bad driving trend, IMHO.

Just watched Steve Lehto’s new video, he says that there’s apparently no state laws against doing this. I always assumed it had to be illegal.

Never. I have tried this once or twice, and I can’t stand not being able to hear the car, the road noise, the other cars. You ears give you so much information that your eyes don’t perceive. I refuse to wear headphones while riding my bike, too, for all the same reasons. I can turn my head and hear a car coming up behind me without having to take my full attention off the road.

Thats a problem how? I do that sometimes, when I take a call in my car, better than having your phone against your face..

This drives me nuts, especially on bikes. Bike riders are so much more vulnerable, and yet they disable their early warning system for the sake of a few tunes. Grrr.

I have done this and have no regrets. I ’ ve got 22 years of spotless driving, no accidents, and personally don ’ t feel hindered at all. YMMV based on distractability and need for situational awareness, but for cruising down my usual local roads or interstates, I ’ m not worried. In a strange town or crowded city, no way.

I use the speaker on my iPhone. It’s loud enough (with the windows up and radio off). Yes, it’s better than having the phone on your face, but you are still closing yourself off to 25% of your sensory awareness (eyes, ears, touch, smell).

There are several states that prohibit both ears being covered with headphones or earbuds (I don’t think Michigan is one, though).

...and I’m not talking about just while driving. I’m also including wearing them while in a face to face conversation.

When I talk to people wearing earbuds, I pretend to talk while not making a sound. I continue until they take the earbuds out or give up and walk away.
